The Wildthings is a group of nine teenage girls who raise money to take a volunteer trip with. We started in sixth grade, after outgrowing Girl Scouts. We discussed our interests and decided we were interested in wildlife and the environment. Each year we hold a haunted house, wildflower seed sales at the Sunset Valley Farmers Market, and a huge garage sale, along with other occasional fundraisers. Our years culminate in our volunteer trip, which we take with two or three parental chaperones. Because of our specific interest, we have worked at wolf preserves, land trusts, habitats, and ranches around the country. We are looking to help a new group form. The kids would talk about what cause they are most passionate about, and go from there, with as much help from us as they need. However, a parent would need to agree to sponsor the group and help the kids lead themselves. We can provide fundraiser ideas, meeting instructions, and the necessary legal documentation for making money and taking other people’s kids on trips. We would also love to mentor the new group. Please email wildthingsgroup@gmail.com if you are interested. Resources (PDFs): Wildthings Powerpoint (not a PDF) |
