Trips

We use our money gathered from fundraisers each year to fund a volunteer trip to one of many places. We also leave a cash donation with these places.

Year Organization What We Did
2003 Candy Kitchen Rescue Ranch

(Now Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary)

Rescues and cares for unreleasable wolves, esp. those once kept as pets (unsuccessfully) or sold in the black market

Cleaned enclosures, scrubbed bathing bins,

fed the wolves vitamin meatballs and other foods,

raked up shed fur, organized the gift shop

2004

Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK)

(at the UT Marine Science Institute)

Rehabilitates or permanently cares for sea life found injured, including birds, turtles, and dolphins.

Scrubbed turtle tanks, weighed and measured turtles, fed injured pelicans and seagulls, prepared food for a dolphin, organized the storage room, cleaned sea water filters
2005 Mission: Wolf

Cares for unreleasable wolves similar to those at Candy Kitchen: wolves who were kept as pets then abandoned or used in movies then rejected.

Fed the wolves vitamins, worked on the pathways, helped construct a visitors' center, butchered a cow that had been struck by lightning, fed it to the wolves, organized the gift shop, buried the preserves' septic system
2006/2007 The Big Sur Land Trust

Handles and cares for donated land as habitat for condors, various endangered species, and plant life along the Big Sur Coast.

Removed highly invasive plants from hills and cliffsides: French Broom, Pampas/Jubata Grass, Cape Ivy

At other neighboring conservancies: gathered seeds for a seed protection program, helped check bird count nets and maintain the trails to and from them, planted tree species for reforestation

Year Organization What We Would Do
2008?

The Finca Project

Plant and transplant trees for habitat, help educate farmers about the importance of trees and small-scale plantations
